Pupil Voice
At Birkby Junior School, we work hard to make sure every child can express their views and contribute to school life. The views of children are important and help us to grow and develop our school. Children contribute to school life by taking part in assembly surveys, class discussion and conversations with peers and staff.
Subject leaders regularly consult pupils so they can express their thoughts, feelings and attitudes towards different areas of our curriculum. These consultations help to ensure we deliver a curriculum that caters for all learners’ needs.
School Council
We also have a School Council. Our School Council is a group of children who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.
At the beginning of the school year, every class elects one representative to be a member of the School Council. Our 20 School Councillors wear a special badge to on school uniform every day and meet regularly during the school year.
Our School Council discuss children’s views and help Mrs Davis, our Head teacher, make important decisions about school. Each half-term they also take on a special project, for example: organising fund-raising days or surveying children about playtime activities.
More recently, the school council have worked alongside Mr Donlon to establish a school travel plan. The children have collected travel data using the WOW Travel Tracker and helped gain accreditation from Modeshift STARS for delivering an active and sustainable travel plan.
