Science
We are keen and inquisitive scientists at Birkby Junior School!
Within each year group, Science learning covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as skills that require them to ‘Think Scientifically’. Pupils are taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of Science, and communicate their understanding of this through use of scientific vocabulary. This way, they are then able to become more able scientists who can relate their learning to the world around them and implications of Science, today and for the future.
Throughout all units of Science, ‘Thinking Scientifically’ is supported through the use of practical, scientific investigations. These investigations provide opportunities for pupils to consolidate their scientific understanding. School also cover a ‘We are Scientists’ unit in the Summer term, where pupils further expand on their learning about related scientists, and gain even more insight into scientific concepts by becoming scientists themselves!
