PSHE and RSHE
PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health & Economic education
At Birkby Junior School we are committed to delivering a comprehensive programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. This aims to give children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to make informed decisions and to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
In addition to delivery of our regular PSHE curriculum, we have whole school theme days which link to national events, for example: Anti-Bullying Day and Black History Day. These events allow children an opportunity to learn about important themes and values in depth.
RSHE
The Department for Education announced changes to relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) following nationwide consultation. The new RSHE curriculum came into effect from September 2020. It is taught as an integral part of our PSHE curriculum and while much of the content will already be familiar to you, there is some new content including on mental and physical health, emotional well-being and basic first aid.
The links below provide more detail and some FAQs. In addition, our RSHE and PSHE policy has been completed, following our parental consultation, and can also be found below.
